LEGO Jurassic World is the latest LEGO gave and offers gamers the chance to step into the imaginative world of the dinosaurs that was made popular by the film franchise. Most of the other LEGO games have been well received by gamers of all ages, meaning that high hopes are riding on this new release. Read on to discover if LEGO Jurassic World manages to meet expectations.

The best elements from the LEGO gaming world include a rock solid foundation combined with innovative twists, split screen game play, a large ensemble of well developed characters and an exciting characters that players look forward to collecting and using in different ways. Unfortunately, LEGO Jurassic World doesn’t quite offer these tried and true elements and it seems as though this game doesn’t really live up to the hype.

However, this doesn’t mean that it is a bad game. Not at all. Players have the chance to design and play with their own dinosaurs, which offers hours of fun all on its own. The voices of many of the characters are supplied by stars such as Pete Postlethwaite and Nick Van Owen. In fact, this is the first LEGO game to actually feature real character voices, which adds a whole new dimension to the fun.

There are two open world settings for players to explore; Isla Sorna and Isla Nublar. These settings serve to link the five episodes from the Jurassic franchise together in a seamless world that can be a lot of fun to explore. Players will have the chance to solve a series of fairly simple puzzles along the way, which adds an extra element of fun.

While the puzzles tend to be a bit on the easy side, they are still entertaining. The cut out scenes from the films are sure to excite Jurassic Park fans and help them to feel as if they have stepped into one of the films and actually have the chance to play the part of one of the characters or even one of the ferocious dinosaurs.

The game brings back all of the most beloved Jurassic park characters such as Lex and Dr Ian Malcolm. The character’s skills are fully utilised and the photographer played by Vince Vaughn dazzles the dinosaurs with his camera while Lex really puts her computer hacking and screaming skills to work to help save the day.

The LEGO series is clearly aimed at younger gamers and this edition meets its target well. The easy puzzles will keep younger players occupied and there is plenty to look at. Although older players may become bored a little quickly, the slapstick comedy routines performed by some of the most ferocious dinosaurs is sure to put a smile on the face of even the most jaded gamer.

Perhaps the most attractive feature of LEGO Jurassic World is that you have the ability to switch between characters and have a lot of fun playing with them. Each of the characters have their own special powers as well as weaknesses, which can often lead to hilarious situations. Follow Ellie as she jumps into huge piles of dinosaur poo and water sprouts to transform them into useful tools later on in the game. Of course, the main highlight is actually playing as the dinosaurs and causing havoc as a gigantic T-Rex can be a lot of fun.

The creators clearly had a lot of fun making this game. In some ways it is extremely detailed and imaginative and it is obvious that a lot of time and attention to detail has gone into it. However, in some ways it almost feels as they had a bit too much fun during the design stage. Things are mapped out so way and thoroughly that there isn’t really too much for players to do. There will be lots of moments where you find yourself simply sitting back and watching the action unfold in from of you rather than actually taking part in it.

Like the Jurassic World film itself, this game is not quite as exciting as the others in the series. But as a standalone game it has plenty to offer gamers. LEGO Jurassic World is really not a bad game and you can easily spend several hours exploring. But somehow, you just expect more from a collaboration between the design team behind LEGO and those of the Jurassic franchise. Younger players in particular are sure to love this game and it really brings the world of the dinosaurs to life.
